Big Idea - What exactly is the blessing of God and how can we receive the fulness of His blessings in our lives? In modern times we may not think about the power of blessing or cursing like they did in the past when people were not so scientific. In ancient times, a spoken blessing or curse was considered to have power that would come true, even more so if spoken by one with a gift for such things. We are now ruled by a more logical approach to life, where only causes rooted in the laws of nature can produce certain effects and results. We do not believe in the superstisious. It true that our own words do not have the power to curse or bless, but the Bible is clear that God does! Our lives are not determined purely by the laws of nature, but ultimately by God who has the power to bless us or to curse us. So, what does the blessing, or the cursing look like and what can we do to make sure we are on the good side of God, so to speak? His blessing is a matter of His grace alone, it will never be something we deserve. He blesses based on His overflowing goodness and compassion. His blessing is ultimately Himself - His very life and presence with us, and His full saving work from beginning to end. His blessing is guaranteed through Jesus who is the King who blesses His people. Our part, is to trust in God. True faith will be evident in our life when we start acting like God, by seeking the blessing of others instead of cursing them.
