What are the benefits of an eternal High priest based on an indestructible life? What does Jesus high priesthood accomplish for us, make available for us? The last warning passage, may make us feel that we are on very shaky ground with God, but if there is any reason to worry it is not because God has not done everything possible to ensure that we can live our life with complete confidence of our salvation. But what it means to be saved must be fully understood - it is those who only see it impart who are in danger of missing all that God has. First we have a better hope - through Him we draw near to God and live in His presence, and second, we enter into a better covenant that Jesus guarantees by His indestructible life. Jesus did not come simply to remove our sin and quilt, as important as that is. There is a much higher and greater goal, that of removing the barrier that kept every worshipper at a distance from God, so that we can enter into His very presence unhindered and without restriction through His blood and by His High Priestly service. This is all made possible by the very oath and promise of God. It is by God's oath that Jesus is our high Priest based on his indestructible life, not based on lineage or law. He Himself is the guarantee of a new covenant relationship with God where He makes certain both sides of the agreement are fully met and cannot fail!
