Description

In each of these three snapshots the Disciples exhibit a mindset, or way of thinking that is very different from how Jesus thinks and what He values. But it is more than just an idea or thought - these ideas shape their actions and attitudes toward others. These values end up becoming actions. Jesus corrects the heart - the place where ideas grow, and seeks to reform the actions. The ideas the Disciples struggle with in this section revolve around the idea of Identity - What is the proper basis for our own worth, importance, and self-esteem. What does it mean to pursue greatness? What makes be special, and significant? How am I to see my own moral goodness in comparison to others? Jesus shows them that the only valid basis of self-worth, self-esteem, and identity is in our relationship to God through the work of Christ. I have worth, significance, and a positive identity because God made me and by His grace has restored me in Christ, and has called me into mission with Him. Therefore, I should see people as God sees them - as He sees and loves me!
