The warning of the books of Hebrews is that people would not trust God as He has revealed Himself, specifically in the Gospel of Christ - the Cross and the sustaining ministry of our great High Priest, with the result that they fall away, are hardened by the sin of unbelief, and fail to press on to maturity, finish the race and receive the eternal reward. How can we help those who are struggling in the race and are in danger of dropping out? How can we build them up so they can run with endurance? IN the life of faith no one gets left behind. It is not enough to focus on me and my race! We must also strive to make sure the whole team finishes well! We do this first, by making sure we are seeking wholeheartedly the transforming work of grace in our own life, and then watching out for community of faith by making sure: 1) no one is left behind, 2) no destructive root of bitterness is allowed to grow, 3) no one loses sight of the finish line and the prize.
