The preordained purpose of God stands firm and is certain – even in regard to Israel – because it is not dependent on us. God works it out by His own choosing and power, not based on the actions or decisions of people, but solely on the choice and action of God Himself. This is a hard reality for those of us who live in the democratic West – where our right to choose is ingrained in us from birth. Our whole sense of justice rests on the principle that true justice exists only in a place where the will of the people empowers leaders by free and fair elections, and by that leaders have the authority and right to rule. But, it is this very principle – free and fair election without coercion or undue influence – that gives God the right to choose us! His choice must be free and fair, not because we have forced him into something, and His right to rule, does not come from us, but from His own being as creator God!
