When you trust in Jesus, you are united to Him in both His death and His resurrection. This union means your old self has been crucified and you are free from sin's control. The Spirit who raised Christ now lives in you, giving you power to live a new life. Drawing close to Christ through His word is how you experience that resurrection power each day.
