Description

Today we will talk about a rather important topic, but one that is sometimes overlooked: Learning German. It may sound trivial for me as a native germanspeaker myself to say: “You are in Germany, so learn german!” Because that is way easier said than done. Even I, as a native speaker, make mistakes. So I can only imagine how hard it has to be to have to learn it from the beginning. Especially during a doctorate, where you don’t have a lot of free time anyway. And what little free time you have, you should spend on yet more work. But, as we will see in this episode, it is a crucial part, not just for living in Germany, but also for being able to work and/ or stay here. So first up, we will talk to Clara Buitrago, our coordinator for internationalization here at the bghs, about the importance of learning German. After that, there will be an interview with Andrea Didier, who is the team lead for PunktUm. What exactly that is she will explain herself. And after that, we will again hear from Clara, but this time, in the role of a person who learned german later in life. To those native german speakers listening to this episode: Please don’t skip it! You may learn about some challenges your fellow doctoral researchers are facing and get a different perspective, but we will also talk about things germanspeakers can do, to help others learn their language. So, stay tuned and enjoy todays episode!
