Description

Tina Rea is a northwest girl who enjoys being outside in all weather conditions running, biking, hiking, skiing, camping and kayaking. After 15 years as a graphic designer she decided the desire to help others was greater than creating a beautiful print document. During massage school she discovered Zen Shiatsu. The energy she felt as a giver and receiver even on that very first class had her hooked. She wanted to learn all there was about Shiatsu, not realizing this would be a life long discovery. As she learned more about the body and energy it has informed her work with her clients. In the last 10 to 15 years scientists have discovered even more about the mind body connection. Tina has focused her 21 plus years in practice as a Shiatsu practitioner and student of this amazing modality from Japan. She has sought books, talks and research that expands her knowledge and understanding of that connection, along with quantum physics and the connection between the digestive system and the brain. For over 20 years Ms. Rea has also been a Shiatsu practitioner at the Institute for Traditional Medicine in the Immune Enhancement Project clinic. Her focus there is working with clients with cancer, MS, HIV/AIDS and other autoimmune illnesses. Her work at this clinic has greatly increased her knowledge, understanding and skill working with clients with medical issues that affect their health and recovery. It has also taught her a great deal about illness and its effects on the body allowing her to better serve all of her clients. Ms. Rea has skill, understanding and experience in working with clients in cancer recovery. Cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, reconstruction and being released from doctor care until their next scan often leaves patients feeling disconnected and lost. She views this as their rebuilding stage and strives to help them connect to their bodies and themselves in a new way. Ms. Rea has developed an understanding and approach to working with clients recovering from and adjusting to having an autoimmune illness. Clients at Tina’s private practice, Shiatsu for Health, located in downtown Portland, are generally looking for improved health and well-being, as well as improved energy, alignment and circulation. Ms. Rea’s goal is to help her clients reduce pain, increase movement, decrease the effects of stress while increasing their immune system. Her approach is client centered. She does not work on illness or condition, rather, she creates a personal Shiatsu session for each of her clients each time they come in for a session. Shiatsu provides a deeper sense of relaxation and a greater energy as you move through your day. Shift how your body feels, shift how you feel in your body with Shiatsu.
