My friend Jeff seems to think that the reason why popular authors kind of insult each other frequently is the tall poppy syndrome. The tall poppy syndrome is when you have someone who becomes popular too quickly, that's the tall poppy. The rest of the people who have been working hard and things of the sort, they look at the tall poppy and they are like undeserved victory, and they criticize the tall poppy."
