Today I'm talking to Jeff Edwards from the amazing Montreal band The Yardlets, a project which he co leads with Sam Goldberg Jr. (Broken Social Scene). He describes their sound as "Buddy Holly on Acid", While that is apt, it's also super fun adrenalized punk that'll make your head bop.
Jeff and I grew up together in in the punk Petri Dish of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. We talked via facetime about the diy 80's skateboarding scene, the developmental appropriateness, nay-necessity, for boys to be ninjas, and how a famous drummer had his best session ever playing on their first album!
Along the way we talk about the influences of our friends and little known luminaries Mike Pragnell, Paul Edwards and Andre Doucet, and you can hear me say "Dude, that is So Sick!" Several times to try to sound cool!
