Psalm 130
What I See Through the Eyes of the Psalmist . . .
Great Guilt . . .
- I stand guilty before a holy God and in need of His great mercy.
- The depravity of my sinfulness is exposed by his righteousness. (Isaiah 6:1-7)
"Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD!" (v.1)
- I desperately cry for mercy because I realize that my offense is worthy of God's wrath.
"I cry to you . . . hear my voice . . .be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?" (v.2-3)
Great Mercy . . .
- God's mercy is graciously shown in His forgiveness. (v.4)
- When I become aware of the greatness of Jesus' sacrifice, in light of the depravity of my sinfulness, it deepens my sense of awe towards a holy and gracious God who forgives.
"But with You there is forgiveness, that you may be feared." (v.4)
His great mercy and forgiveness do not come without a cost . . .
Great Redemption . . .
- My hope is found in His plentiful (v.7-8)
- Jesus Christ took my sin and received God's wrath to purchase my salvation.
"For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21
Great Hope . . .
- I hope in His word as I eagerly wait for His great salvation that is to come. (v.5-6)
