Psalm 77
How Should I Respond in Times of Distress?
- In your time of distress, cry out to God. (v. 1)
- God always hears and responds to those who cry out to Him. (Psalm 107:6, 13, 28; Psalm 18:6)
- In your time of distress seek "In the day of trouble I seek the Lord." (v.2, 6, 10)
"But as for me, I would seek God . . ." Job 5:8
- In your time of distress, know that God is big enough to handle your questions. (v.7-9)
- Don't let your questions high center your faith.
- In your time of distress, make a conscious decision to remember the faithfulness of God. (v.11-12)
- In your time of distress, you can trust that God is leading you not leaving (v.13-20)
"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6
- It is an act of grace that God would lead us through difficult times so that we might press in to know Him in ways we otherwise never would.
The Big Question . . .
- What is your strategy for handling the distress you may be experiencing in your life right now?
- Are you crying out to God, or are you turning to someone or something else?
- Are you seeking God, or blaming God?
- Are your questions leading you to answers, or does your faith feel high centered?
- In what ways are you consciously deciding to remember God's faithfulness toward you?
