In Chapter eleven of The Chronicles of Belteshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar has a frightening dream that he wants his wisemen to interpret for him. However, he won’t tell them the dream – he wants them to prove they can truly interpret it by telling him what was in the dream. When they can’t, Nebuchadnezzar orders that all the wisemen, including Daniel, be rounded up and executed. Daniel convinces Naaman, the Captain of the Babylonian Guard, to let him speak with Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel calmly explains that all will be well, and that his God will reveal both the dream and its meaning. I conclude the episode of a story from my own life in which I played the part of Cassius in the play Julius Ceasar to talk about how members of a “deep state” can work to defeat a ruler.
