We walk together along the magnificent avenue, which runs dead straight toward the headquarters. The stranger introduces himself as Toben, but everyone just calls her "Lighter", because he always has enough lighters with him at raves to help out in emergency situations. Automatically, my brain creates a note that Toben might be useful in the future. He seems to be with ComRa for a long time, you can tell by the routine when he enters the building. Handshake with the security, then a short chat with the receptionist, and by the way the formalities are done. In less than 5 minutes he has mastered the entrance to the headquarters and grins mischievously from the other side. "See you, then in half an hour at the training!" was the last thing I heard from him before he disappeared into the vastness of the headquarters. I was still standing at the entrance right in front of the door and couldn't get a word out at first.
"Please step forward and turn in all electronic devices," the security grumbled at me. A bit intimidated, I rummaged in my pockets before getting the idea to ask "why?". "I'm just following standard security protocol. In the interest of its employees, ComRa takes privacy very seriously. Therefore, no electronic devices are allowed in the building." I nod and pretend to understand the meaning behind the statement. Apart from my cell phone, I don't have any other devices with me. I am to pick this up again when I leave the building. Furthermore, a short pat-down took place, like when entering a soccer stadium. At the reception, my personal details were taken and the reason for my visit was documented. At Lighter, all the security measures were much more reduced. Maybe he just looks more trustworthy than I do. After 20 minutes, I too had reached the other side and could make my way to the training. I was accompanied by two very taciturn members of the security staff. They took me the shortest way and fast step to the training room. They did not respond to my questions. I would have liked to know whether I would also meet the manager of ComRa today. I would have some suggestions for improvement to bring efficiency and the feel-good factor into a sensible balance. Instead, I sit alone in an uncomfortable chair and am told to wait for further instructions.
I lean back and take a deep breath. As I do so, I notice the music that is softly resounding in the surroundings. I cannot detect any loudspeakers anywhere. It seems as if the music is coming at me evenly from all directions. I close my eyes and forget for a moment the unpleasantness of the last few minutes.
