Description

It's rare to find a talented, business savvy practitioner who's also an advocate for the dental community. Dr. Tony Feck is one of those clinicians, which is why we're so excited to have him on today's episode of the Dental Slang Podcast. This mentor and coach founded the Sunrise Dental Solutions community, which is known for bringing dentists together to offer help and support.

We all know dentists have an aversion to change, and Tony says that's one of the biggest challenges he faces when teaching clinicians. Dentists may spend more money on mentors than any other industry, but we're still reluctant to make big changes. Whether it's time or money—or even fear of the unknown—it seems like something always stops us from implementing new technologies and techniques into our practices.

To fight this, Tony recommends getting your staff involved in your education. The next time you go to a seminar or meet with your mentor, consider bringing some of your team members along, or at least share what you learned with them when you return to the office. That way, when you lose steam, your team members will be there to help you get back on the right track.

Getting everyone on your team excited about the new procedures or tools you'd like to incorporate into your office will keep you motivated, but it also helps to have a coach, mentor or even a consultant to cheer you on as well. What's the difference? Tony tells us, along with why he thinks a coach is the best option.

Coaches offer the guidance and support we need to stay focused. Because dentists, especially practice owners, are independent, we sometimes isolate ourselves from others. A coach who is readily available, knowledgeable, and humble can give you much needed perspective when the going gets tough.

If you're thinking about finding someone to mentor you, Tony suggests looking for a coach who's been where you want to go and who will encourage you as you make your way down the same path. He's identified 10 qualities dentists should look for in a teacher, and he shares those qualities with us on this episode.

Remember, it's never too late to learn something new! So, tune in now to find out how you can connect with a dental coach who will help you grow your practice and meet your goals.
