Dialed in For Success, Episode 2: The Secret Life of Goals
You have to follow your calling. Don’t let fear stop you.
Review of last week’s Podcast
- I used to hate goal setting because the way it was taught to me was boring and I heard it again and again.
- Standard Corpoarte Goal Setting:
- S.M.A.R.T. Goals
- Specific, Measurable, Attainable/Achievable, Realistic, Timebound
- The Law of Familiarity: Anything you are exposed to repeatedly, you tend to take for granted.
This Week’s Podcast
- Seth Godin interview really opened my eyes to goal setting secrets.
- Goals are a tool for keeping an agreement with yourself. They’re like a lever. They pry you into action. You don’t want to break a promise with yourself. It’s easier to achieve the goal than break the promise to yourself.
- The reason people don’t set goals is that once they write down the goal, they have to take responsibility for their lives and that scares them to death.
- Tracy Trost of the Successful Life Mindset podcast calls it pre-quitting. “I’m going to fail so why try?”
- When you set your goals, the critics will come out. They have a vested interest in you NOT CHANGING
- Achieving goals has a snowball effect. Start small and use each victory as a steping stone to the next one.
