Intentionality and Overwhelm: how are they related?

It's been a busy season so today we will talk about the connection between intentionality and overwhelm.

Because overwhelm is the opposite of intentionality.

Anytime we feel overwhelmed, it usually means that we are not aligned with ourselves. That we are trying to meet expectations that other people had set for us. And if we are not showing up with a plan and a purpose of our own, nor showing up every day as business owners, then we are not sure what we are actually doing in our business.

…which means that we are probably doing more than what we should be doing (thus the overwhelm.)

That's why a big part of my coaching is highlighting that it is YOUR business. Not the company, your leaders, business partners, etc. They're just there to support you. But it is YOUR business.

And it is up for us to determine, "Am I building somebody else's version of my business?" Because if you do, then it's time to set intentions in your business. (Check out tips on how you can create an intentional business plan.)

So how do not hit the overwhelm button?

As direct sellers, we are bombarded with a lot of advertisement and deals that demand our attention. We are also exposed to things that tell us what we are "supposed" to be doing. And if we're not careful, we will be caught up in those lists. So we should take a step back and frequently ask ourselves, "but what's my list? What do I need and want to focus on?"

And one of the ways we could narrow our focus to avoid overwhelm is by brain dumping.

So here's my three-part series in brain dumping (I have a full class on this, but I will share this with you briefly here):

1. Set a timer and just write anything that comes to your head. Remember that brain dumps don't have to be organized, neat, nor right. Just write every thought down!

2. Walk away from it and do something else.

3. Come back to it after 2 or more hours later and then highlight what are the most important, and things on that list that you know to be true

You should then be left with 4-10 things on that list and those should become your focus.
