Lake Monduran is extremely well stocked with barramundi and the quality of fish in recent years has leaped ahead as the dam recovers from massive fish losses during the 2011 flood. These days the barra are prolific and metre fish are beginning to make a serious return.
Despite the abundance of quality fish in the system, the system can be frustrating to fish, earning it the nickname "Lake Misery". Monduran guide Rusty Townsend begs to differ though. He's spent many years figuring this system out and reckons the disappointing days can be kept to a minimum if you know how to fish it.
