Most keen anglers are aware of the importance of fish being able to move freely around our river systems between the ocean, the estuaries and freshwater habitat in rivers, lakes and wetlands.
But only a very small number of anglers and aquatic ecologists realise just how important that movement is - or the scale at which it's been disrupted by human activities. This disruption has severely impacted the numbers of juvenile barramundi, mangrove jack, tarpon and jungle perch in our rivers. Not to mention the dozens of species that are not of interest to fishers but which make up a healthy ecosystem that can support the recreational fish.
In this episode we spend some time with Matt Moore exploring the importance of connectivity between freshwater and saltwater and what he and his team are doing to improve the situation.
