The Great Sandy Straits is an extensive network of sandbanks, channels and mangrove-fringed shoreline nestled between Fraser Island and the mainland on Queenslands Fraser Coast. Much has been written about the decline in fisheries in this area, and today's guest Ryan Holdsworth has noticed the impact. However, he reckons the barra, jack and threadfin fisheries are the exception and have held their own, with great sportfishing opportunities on offer in the creeks and shorelines on the western side.
In today's episode Ryan shares his strategies for finding and targeting all three species on lures, working though how to use the tides, the best tackle for the job and the techniques he uses to tempt these species to his lures.
