Communication tips when speaking to a veteran:

  1. Try saying "thank you for your sacrifice" instead of "thank you for your service."
  2. Ask in what branch they served and then listen! If they are conversational, feel free to ask more questions. If they give you a one word answer and seem closed off, drop the subject.
