Welcome to Season 3, Episode 1 of the DONESON podcast! We have come so far, but we are going to take you even further this time around. This is the first of five episodes where we will be discussing racism in America. This dark part of history has permeated American culture since its inception and is still prevalent today. On this episode, entitled Racism 101 -Feeding the Beast, we will look at the early beginnings of slavery and how it came to be. The effects of slavery on this new emerging country became some of the core foundations of the America we still see today. From the British supply and demand of cotton, to the forced removal of the Native population and ultimately to the enslavement of millions, created long-lasting effects. But racism is not born, it is taught. Therefore, with the right education, we can help our country to unlearn it, all while seeing how its effects changed the course of history for the different cultural groups in early America.
