Have you heard of NAC? In our latest podcast Dr Cabot talks to natural therapist, Rachel Bowerman about NAC. NAC stands for N-Acetyl Cysteine and is the precursor to glutathione; the body's most potent antioxidant. NAC is rapidly absorbed from the gut and goes straight to the liver where it is converted to glutathione. NAC is a critical supplement for people with chronic infections or chronic inflammation. There are numerous health studies on NAC and its ability to break down biofilm (the thick mucus that builds up around an infection) and for this reason is extremely effective for treating viral or bacterial infections, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, chronic bronchitis, post-nasal drip or sinusitis. It is also beneficial for treating conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (the most common cause of blindness), endometriosis, lung and kidney problems. Did you know glutathione does not work as well if you are low in selenium? If you are taking NAC and not getting the results you want, it could be because you also need to take selenium.
