Continuing the field engineering methods manual series, Jason reads through Chapter 2 of Wesley Crawford's "Construction Surveying and Layout," covering the communication side of the job, arguably just as critical as the technical skills. He walks through oral, telephone, and radio communication habits, written communication and email best practices, how to run and behave in meetings, decision-making principles, and how to give and receive feedback for improvement. The chapter closes with practical field skills like hand and arm signals, staking principles, and marking line and grade, all illustrated with Jason's own real-world stories, including a costly mistake caused by a sloppy mark that led to door frames being shot at the wrong elevation.
What you'll learn in this episode:
How many questions are you actually asking in a day as a field engineer, and could multiplying that by ten change your career trajectory?
