Description

Jason introduces a foundational Lean distinction: the difference between flow and pull. Pull means each trade or process moves at the pace set by whoever's ahead of them, speeding up or slowing down to match, and materials get delivered just in time to the point of work rather than staged in advance. Flow, by contrast, regulates both the speed and the distance between trades, so everyone moves at a consistent, steady pace through the building rather than adjusting to whoever's setting the pace. Using Eli Goldratt's hiking-line story from The Goal and a real anecdote about a failing Tucson project turned around by putting trades back into rhythm, Jason makes the case that flow is the ideal, pull is the acceptable fallback, and pushing everyone around chaotically is never acceptable.

What you'll learn in this episode:

Is your own project actually flowing at a consistent pace and distance, or is it just barely surviving on scattered, chaotic pushing?
