Batteries are changing the world. And today our guest is battery guru from South Korea, who has been in the industry for about 20 years. Andrew discussed the 5 key suppliers that produce 90% of today’s Lithium-Ion battery and how battery prices changed over the years and continuing. We explored his views on the shortage of raw materials, the future of pricing, and second-life batteries.
Although I don’t agree fully with his views about second-life batteries and the prospect of using first-generation Nissan Leaf batteries for on-grid operations, it was an exciting discussion and lot to learn from his candid views. We touched on many topics from safety issues especially concerns on fire hazards, and the importance of a good battery management system (BMS) and recycling of batteries.
We found out about Andrew’s dream to become an energy service provider, by developing many high-tech services to optimize the impact of batteries on the power system, especially distribution systems.
To find more about new opportunities involving batteries, understand its support chain, the duck-curve, off-grid power, and whether it is a good idea to go into battery manufacturing or not especially for countries like India. Please listen to our podcast
