This month, comedian Bill Maher drew harsh criticism for his use of the N-word during an interview on his HBO show, Real Time with Bill Maher. While speaking with Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse on a June 2 episode of the show, Maher flippantly used the racial slur in response to the senator's invitation to visit his home state and work in the field's to learn about the experiences of local farmers.
Maher later issue a formal apology and even asked prominent African American thinker Michael Eric Dyson and famed hip-hop artist Ice Cube to his show where each man spoke directly to Maher and offered their thoughts on his behavior. On this episode of the Voices of Reason Podcast, Amy Donaldson and Jasen Lee discuss the incident and how use of the n-word is heard and felt by those of different races, as well as offering our own perspectives on the incident that precipitated the national conversation.
