Dwayne Wade credits his amazing playoff performance to the heckling of Kevin Hart. Kevin Hart is a huge 76ers fan and he wanted to heckle the Miami Heat into a loss.
It backfired big time.
Wade used it as motivation to crush Philadelphia.
Scott and Jason saw the same thing happen in the NFL. Hecklers can get into your head and knock you off your game. Or they can become motivation for a focused player.
Scott used to play golf with Dan Marino. The worse thing you could do was heckle him. Scott would kill him with kindness. Telling him what a great golfer he is and pretending to be intimidated knocked Marino off his game. If you put money on the line or heckle him, Marino would destroy.
The other side of trash talking is the trash talking that's done by players themselves.
Apparently Michael Jordan was a huge talker. He would talk trash to other players, fans, etc.
Brian Mitchell was a big talker for the Washington Redkins. Jason played with him. Jason thinks most trash talkers in football are the skill players. The linemen didn't really do that.
Scott Mitchell and Jason Buck, hosts of Rivals are past football rivals at the university and professional level, come together to talk life and sports. Scott Mitchell was a record-setting quarterback at the University of Utah. He then went on to play for Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals. Jason Buck was drafted out of Brigham Young University in the first round of the NFL draft. He played on the defensive line for Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins. He earned a Super Bowl ring in the Redskins victory over Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.
