Rivals hosts Scott Mitchell and Jason Buck talk about Ty Detmer.  He's been "relieved of duties" as offensive coordinator for BYU.

Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 and is one of the biggest names in Brigham Young University football history.

Does he deserve the blame for BYU's poor offensive year?  They're obviously having trouble developing a deep bench offensively.  But did Detmer just need more time?

Scott believes that no one understands what quarterbacks go through to prepare to play.  He thinks teams should hire quarterbacks to coach all positions.  You spend so much time studying every position you know every position in depth and how they interact.

Fans and the media need to know that NFL veterans who have played under great coaches are very ready to coach in college.  That includes Detmer.   Their experience can't be easily found in other hires.
