A band from the US has found a creative way of having concerts during the coronavirus pandemic using plastic bubbles.
The Flaming Lips played concerts on January 22 and 23 in Oklahoma City where each audience member watched from inside a bubble, either alone or with up to two others. Members of the band were inside bubbles, too.
Inside each bubble, audience members were given a water bottle, a small fan and a sign. One side of the sign could be used to let staff know that they needed to get out of their bubble to go to the bathroom. The other side of the sign read, "It's hot in here." Staff could then put fresh, cool air into the bubble.
According to the band's lead singer, Wayne Coyne, there was enough oxygen inside each bubble to last three people more than 70 minutes before new oxygen had to be added.
Speaking to Rolling Stone about the concert plans last year, Coyne called it a "weird event." "But the weirdness is so we can enjoy a concert before putting our families and everybody at risk," he said.
