Increasing numbers of young people are no longer interested in Facebook.
Forty-four percent of users between the ages 18 and 29 say they deleted the Facebook app from their phone sometime during the past year, according to a new poll from Pew Research. Only twelve percent of users over 65 have done so.
Research from Common Sense Media has found that only 15 percent of 13 to 17 year olds say Facebook is their main social media site. That’s down from 2012, when 68 percent of teens said Facebook was their preferred social media site. Today’s young people are increasingly using Snapchat and Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.
Overall, 42 percent of Facebook users report having taken weeks-long breaks from the social media site over the past year.
64 percent of young users have changed their privacy settings after it was found that Cambridge Analytica collected information on tens of millions of Facebook users without their knowledge or approval. Only one-third of users 65 and older have done so.
