With its roof on the ground and its floor in the air, an upside-down house in South Africa is attracting tourists who want to see the world in a different way.
Located near Hartbeespoort, about 75 kilometers north of Johannesburg, the house is upside down both outside and inside. It is based on the idea that the world around us "might sometimes feel upside down."
Visitors can take pictures of themselves in rooms that have sofas and chairs on the ceiling – or visit the upside-down kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, often turning their cameras upside down to get unusual photos.
Tickets are 60 rand for children and 90 rand for adults, or about $3.60-$5.50.
This isn't the only upside-down house in the world. There are also upside-down houses in countries like Canada, Russia and China, and there are several in Germany and Malaysia. There is also an upside-down White House in Wisconsin and another by the Black Sea in Georgia that is actually a restaurant.
The Hartbeespoort area is a popular destination for weekend trips for people from Johannesburg and one of South Africa's capitals, Pretoria, which is about a 45-minute drive away. The area is best known for its mountains and for Hartbeespoort Dam, where visitors can enjoy hiking, water sports, animal parks and local restaurants.
