"We have this joke that if you are scared of something, eat it."
This is the advice of Hoang Tung, a chef in Hanoi, Vietnam, who has started selling a burger that looks like the coronavirus.
The bun of the burger is given a green color by adding things like katuk leaves, also known as sweet leaves. It is also made to have the same shape as the coronavirus. "We try to make this Coronaburger look pretty and cute," said Tung. He says he wants people to not be scared when they talk about the coronavirus.
Apart from what's used to change its color, the Coronaburger is the same as a normal cheeseburger. "It was tasty; very good," Paul Monahan told Reuters after eating the burger.
Tung's restaurant, Pizza Home, has been selling about 50 of the burgers a day, and has seen a 5% increase in sales. Many businesses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been told to close, but Pizza Home and some other restaurants have stayed open.
Dang Dinh Quy, 66, told Reuters he had taken his grandson to have a Coronaburger because even though the coronavirus is dangerous, eating a burger in its shape feels like winning. "If you want to beat it, you've got to eat it first," he said.
Vietnam has a population of over 95 million people but has had less than 300 reported cases of COVID-19. No one has died from it there, and 200 people have already recovered.
