As we enter the season of Advent, we welcome you to our program 愛的凱歌Adore Him. My name is Judy and for the fourth Sunday of Advent, we are featuring the song "Peace upon the Earth" from Hillsong Worship's Christmas albumChristmas: The Peace Project, which was released in 2017. We have recorded our own version of the song after translating its lyrics into Chinese. If you're interested, we invite you to sing along with us. The Chinese translation of the lyrics is provided below.
The story behind the song "Peace upon the Earth" is that during the production of Christmas: The Peace Project, Marty Sampson was trying to come up with a new approach to creating a Christmas song. He was inspired by the well-known Christmas carol "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," written by Charles Wesley and with a tune composed by Felix Mendelssohn. He decided to use this approach. One day, while driving to get breakfast, he heard "Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2" by Frédéric Chopin on YouTube and was moved by it. He used Chopin's “Nocturne Op.9 No. 2” as the main tune in crafting a beautiful Christmas song that retells the story of Christmas.
The song "Peace upon the Earth" is based on the Bible verse "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests" (Luke 2:14). We hope you enjoy listening to our rendition of this song and we wish you all a blessed Advent season and a Merry Christmas!
