Picasso venne invitato ad eseguire la scenografia del balletto Parade dal suo caro amico e regista Jean Cocteau. Per eseguire il bozzetto della scenografia Pablo si trasferì a Roma, in Via Margutta 53b, nel 1917, in piena Prima Guerra Mondiale.
