In this episode I speak with the Director of the Spanish and Portuguese markets for Bord Bia, Cecilia Ruiz Lafuente. Cecilia is Spanish and is based in Madrid. She has been with Bord Bia for over 25 years and has seen Ireland's agrifood business with Spain and Portugal grow over the years. As many listeners will already know, Bord Bia is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the food, drink and horticultural sectors in Ireland and operates under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture.
At the current time, Ireland's agrifood sector is one of those that faces the greatest challenges from Brexit and the opportunity to expand exports to other European Union members is a priority for many producers as the UK moves to exit the transition period at the end of 2020.
Cecilia has a long-standing connection to Ireland and went to a primary school in Madrid called Las Irlandesas (The Irish Girls) and we will find out more about that in the interview.
Ceclia attended university in the UK where she obtained her degree in marketing and business administration and her career has always been connected to international trade. As you will hear, Cecilia is a great fan of Ireland, its people, its culture, and of course, its produce.
