Charlie Watts was my favorite drummer. I emulated the way he played and fit in to the world’s greatest rock band. So I was caught off guard when I heard he had passed right before my show.
I switched gears and dropped usual format (except the music) and read tributes and quotes from all corners of the world after each musical set. For me, it was the natural thing to do.
We certainly didn’t stop the great rock n’ roll music and hoped it would honor Charlie.
- Guess what? The Stones were represented even though it was recorded a week before ’Let’s Spend the Night Together’ fit in nicely.
- Adam Ant from the British invasion, the Queen, Aretha, new one from Willie Nile, Sam and Dave, Cocktail Slippers with their latest. Bo Diddley and Alanis were up on stage. ’
- Baby Ruth’ is finishing up redecorating Studio K up in the mountains and soon will be coming back to the valley, but says the show will be up a little earlier by 3:00 EST.
