The James Gang was formed in Cleveland, home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—and they’ve got a sound that sticks with you. I heard them again a couple of weeks ago, and BAM—instant nostalgia! It took me right back to a week I spent in San Francisco and the East Bay.
Back then, Citicorp offered me a promotion to take over their SF office on 415 Pine St. While scoping it out, I crashed with my best friend Richard Rainwater and his wife Margie. Every morning, I’d drop them at work just so I could use their car during the day. And guess what was on repeat in their 8-track player? The James Gang!
I grew to love them—and fast forward to today, I gave them another spin and was rocked to discover why they were so damn good: Joe Walsh was their lead guitarist and vocalist! Yep, the same Joe Walsh who later joined a little band called The Eagles! 🎶
And here’s another fun fact—one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time, Paul Rodgers, was also in TWO of their bands. Oh, and he’s NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—because he turned it down! 🤯
