I have always had very mystical and transcendent experiences with music and in working with my voice.
Singing, creating songs and being on the stage naturally has always felt more like channeling to me than anything else. On the stage I would often experience a sense of surrendering to something bigger that felt like it was moving through me, more than me being in control.
It also became very clear to me when I was studying music that my path with voice was about surrender - not so much the more conventional way.
Our voice is a direct link to the invisible realms inside of us. There is so much I find hard to put into words around working with voice and expression. What it feels like is using my body to feel and sense things in the moment and following how the energy moves and unfolds. We have all these methods and techniques around voice yet what always remains is the mystery. When we lose connection to the mystery we lose the spirit of it.
And funny thing is, often when clients come to me they already have an established sense of technique and they know how to sing, but they feel like something beyond that is missing. It is not something they don’t already have inside of them - we just lose our connection with it. We need the emotional, inner, energetic and spiritual aspect in singing to connect to that which feels most true in our voice. Singing in essence is very much conversation with what we sense and feel.
