Description

In this episode, Stephen sits down with Pastor Mike DeVries, a regular guest on the show, to discuss the epistle to the Hebrews. The highlight is how well Mike explains Hebrews, which is the most exhaustive treatment of the New Testament's most important theme: Christ.

Mike is a native of Colorado and has been pastoring Gateway Bible Fellowship since 2006. Mike also serves on the Academic Board of Advisors for Aquila, and is doing a great job mentoring young, passionate believers in his local church using the Aquila curriculum.

Here's Pastor Mike's summary of Hebrews with which he concludes the podcast:

Since in these last days God has spoken to us by His Son, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. We must consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession—the Son of God who has passed through the heavens—who, although He was a Son, learned obedience through what He suffered and has become a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.

He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant He mediates is better, since it was enacted on better promises, and since He has appeared once for all to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

So let us draw near with a true heart and full assurance of faith, believing that God exists and that He rewards those who seek Him, looking unto Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, through whom we can offer up a sacrifice of praise to God—that is, the fruit of our lips.

Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
