Psalm 11 ~ Seeking God’s Refuge

To the choirmaster. Of David.

1 In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
    Flee like a bird to your mountain,

2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
    they have fitted their arrow to the string
    to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;

3 if the foundations are destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?

4 The Lord is in His holy temple;
    the Lord's throne is in heaven;
 His eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.

5 The Lord tests the righteous,
    but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

6 Let Him rain coals on the wicked;
    fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

7 For the Lord is righteous;
He loves righteous deeds;
    the upright shall behold His face.

Scriptures

* 1 John 5:18 “We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.”

* James 1: 12-18 “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”

* Col 1:13-17 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

* 2 Corinthians 2:9-11 “For this is why I [Paul] wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.”

* John 16: 7-11 “Nevertheless, I [Jesus] tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
