In Part 2 of my conversation with Tim Sharp — aka Dr Happy, we continue exploring what it really means to live well, beyond the metrics, milestones, and “when I get there” thinking.
Tim shares his belief that from a very young age, we all have a sense of what energises us and where our natural strengths lie but we often don’t have the language, or the permission, to name or prioritise them. We talk about why society tends to discount what comes easily to us, and how much changes when we begin to build life and work around our strengths rather than constantly trying to compensate for our weaknesses.
We discuss the everyday habits that help support wellbeing, knowing that no one gets it right all the time and the role self‑compassion plays when things don’t go to plan. Tim speaks honestly about how the way we speak to ourselves matters, and why picking yourself up with kindness is just as important as motivation or discipline.
This part of the conversation also explores the idea of a “happiness diet” moving away from endlessly postponing happiness until certain conditions are met and instead learning how to feel worthy of the changes we want to make now. We talk about applying this thinking to work, relationships, and mental health, and why creating environments where people can thrive benefits everyone.
We also discuss the power of nature for feeling happy and connected.
Because living well isn’t about doing it perfectly, it’s about choosing to show up again and again.
And, as always, this can look different.
