Description

Hello there and welcome to another episode in this sixth season of Theatrical Shenanigans as we move towards the end of the Season.

Today we are bringing you a play by Ken Green (https://kengreen.me/ & https://newplayexchange.org/users/8634/ken-green)

Ken is a Chicagoan currently residing in the Dorchester neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts. He is a former Chicago news and sports reporter and editor, bad slam poet, and (by his own omission) worse standup comedian. He was co-host/co-producer of Story Club Boston, a storytelling/reading series. He has been featured on the nationally televised storytelling show, “Stories from the Stage” on PBS’ The World channel and has been a local Moth and Massmouth storytelling finalist.

His plays have been produced by Chicago’s Stage Left Theater, Moonbox Production’s Boston’s New Works Festival 2023 & New Repertory Theater. If that wasn’t enough he was commissioned by New York City’s Ensemble for the Romantic Century to create a full-length audio drama on the life of Frederick Douglass.

Ken’s play today is called “Your Favourite” (https://newplayexchange.org/script/2023523/your-favorite) and when talking about his inspiration Ken says “The inspiration for “Your Favorite” was  – surprise – based on actual experience. I was a gallery officer at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. While the crowds at the museum were, of course, different each day, many of the questions, comments, remarks, and things they did were remarkably the same. The play is my attempt at stepping back and looking at how the same environment can be a source of both wonder and boredom and what happens when your thoughts aren’t expected to be your own.”

Synopsis:

At an art museum, small talk between a visitor and a guard leads to a big discussion of human interaction, what "being polite" means and what food goes best with Picasso.
