Description

Hey all you lone wold control freak types- I'm talking to you this episode.  You know how you always feel like you're drowning in work? Time to let go of the reins and start delegating.

Before you start hyperventilating, it's OK to let someone help you. All this and more is detailed in my book Time Builder, now available on my website. Here's my top takeaways to make it work:

  1. Delegation empowers someone else while helping to ease your load. Done right, it's a double blessing.
  2. No one else will love your project the way you do- they may love it as much or more though. Your work is magnified when it has a ripple effect- and that ripple can't happen until you throw the pebble into the water.
  3. Delegation is a skill. It requires building trust and clearly communicating what needs to be done when and why.
  4. Ease your worries about work quality by providing feedback along the way along with lost of praise and constructive criticism.
  5. Manage time spent by providing milestones and checkpoints so you can make sure neither too much or too little work is being done. Calibrate these deadlines to the skill set of your delegate, not based on how long it would take you to complete the task.
