Description

We live in a culture that forces extroverted interactions, even though most of us are introverts. Listen in for my pro tips on how to network effectively at conferences without feeling fake.

  1. Introverts navigate the world differently from extroverts. Because interacting with others depletes our energy, we need to find opportunities for restoration.
  2. Don't feel pressured to over-socialize. Use passive moments like listening to presentations as opportunities for solitude by sitting by yourself.
  3. Nix the awkward small talk. Instead, ask meaningful questions to targeted people. By expressing genuine interest in someone's work, you make authentic connections.
  4. Find alone time during breaks. This can look like sitting in a quiet corner, going outside, or even back to your hotel rooms.
  5. Find things in common to discuss during networking events. Ask open ended questions.
  6. Practice gracefully ending conversations that have run their course.
