In this week’s episode, we discuss Land and Freedom, Ken Loach’s 1995 film about a British Communist (played by Ian Hart) fighting for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War. With a script from screenwriter Jim Allen, Loach uses his trademark naturalistic style to explore a series of sad and harrowing events faced by the POUM militia soldiers. The film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 48th Cannes Film Festival.
