Life did not ask Alexi Bracey to rebuild only once. She has faced cancer, divorce, housing instability, and an accident that left her with a broken femur and eventually ended the work she loved as a chef. But Alexi’s story is not about collecting hardships or pretending that resilience makes difficult experiences easy. It is about what she calls “bouncing forward.” Alexi learned early how to keep moving. As an only child of immigrant parents, she found ways to occupy herself, create things, and eventually build a career around food and caring for other people. But as the life she knew changed again and again, resilience began to mean something different. It became less about getting back to the person she had been and more about deciding what she could still give. Today, that might be telling a stranger a joke. Leaving a message of kindness where someone will find it. Making a small treat with a note that says happiness matters. Showing up for someone without ever knowing whether that moment made a difference.
In this episode of Change Happened, Then What?, Heather and Alexi talk about self-worth, losing stability, rebuilding after life changes, humor as breathing room, and why some of the smallest acts of kindness can matter far more than we ever realize. Because sometimes moving forward does not mean returning to who you were. Sometimes it means discovering what you can carry with you. And sometimes, as Alexi would say, it means learning how to bounce forward.
