Desmond Thomas Doss was a United States combat medic during World War II. He was a Seventh-day Adventist, which meant he didn't believe in violence and chose not to bear arms even to defend himself. Desmond Doss was one of the first conscientious objectors to be awarded the Medal of Honor. He is also the inspiration behind the movie Hacksaw Ridge.
