It is helpful for parents to reflect on the
three clear reasons why inappropriate behavior is reinforced: (1)
ignorance, (2) intolerance of being inconvenienced, and (3)
shortcuts. Either we don’t understand, or we dread hassle, or we
are anxious to shortcut a learning opportunity.
