Saul is chosen king of Israel. Does God want a king in Israel? Deuteronomy 17:14-18 seems to indicate God was OK with a king as long as he was a spiritual as well as political leader. God wanted the king to read and write the scriptures daily to be familiar with what God wanted. The people want a king for security and prosperity.
